Questions about Audiblox: Order of the
Exercises and More

My son has started the program and we are steadily working our way through, but I did have a couple of questions about the program, that maybe I missed or am not understanding so if you would not mind entertaining me on my questions I would highly appreciate your comments.

1) I have decided to start with the Dysgraphia program. Are we supposed to follow the exercises in the order that they are written?

Please follow the exercises in the prescribed order, but you can take a break in between (see last paragraph of page 8 and first paragraph of page 9).

I find that my son gets really tired by the time he hits spelling (which is a real weakness) so I was wondering if we could move that to the front of the exercises instead of near the end?

To get tired in the beginning is normal (see page 9, number 6). If one starts going to a gym one's body also gets very tired during the initial stages. It will get better.

If you are doing the Spelling exercise I assume your son's reading is on par. If not, you should be doing the Reading exercise, not the Spelling exercise. Reading problems should be addressed before spelling problems. Learning is a stratified process. Just like counting must be taught before adding and subtracting, reading must be taught before spelling.

I was not sure if this would mess up the program or not.

It will. Please follow the exercises in the prescribed order.

2) I read the portion on when deciding to move to the second or third lesson, but I am still a little confused. I know my son is not quite ready for that portion yet, but I was trying to figure out when I would know that he needed to move on.

I think you are confusing levels with lessons so let me explain in more detail.

Level 1 of the Dysgraphia Program says:

Sequencing exercise 3 for 10 minutes
Arrows exercise for 2 minutes
Pattern exercise 1 for 10 minutes
Spatial exercise for 1-2 minutes
Reading exercise for 10 minutes
Crumple Papers exercise 2
Writing exercise for 5 minutes
Beanbags exercise 1 (or 2, or 3, or 4) for 3 minutes
Balance exercise 1 (or 2, or 3, or 4) for 3 minutes

You must do this whole lesson plan for a minimum of six sessions (more is better) before proceeding to Level 2.

If you look at Level 2 you'll see that there are now two lesson plans, not only one lesson plan as in Level 1. Lesson 1 of Level 2 is exactly the same as the lesson plan of Level 1, but Lesson 2 is different. You must alternate between the two lesson plans. For example, you will do Lesson 1 on Monday, Lesson 2 on Tuesday, Lesson 1 on Wednesday, Lesson 2 on Thursday, Lesson 1 on Friday, etc.

If you look at Level 3 you'll see that there are now three lesson plans. You must alternate between the three lesson plans. For example, you will do Lesson 1 on Monday, Lesson 2 on Tuesday, Lesson 3 on Wednesday, Lesson 1 on Thursday, Lesson 2 on Friday, etc.

> For example, how many blocks in the sequence exercise is he supposed to be at before we can move to the next lesson?

The number of blocks does not determine the level.

> or which section of the spelling does he need to be on before we can say he is ready to move onto the next section?

Assuming that you should be doing the Spelling exercise and not the Reading exercise: Do not proceed to a new set until he can spell all the misspelled words in a set perfectly, which might require several sessions. And, even after he has learned to spell the misspelled words, they should never be discarded. They should be reviewed regularly (Step 1) and again be included in Step 3 whenever they have again been misspelled.
