Questions about Audiblox: Lesson Plans and Spelling Exercise
We are in the 10th day of Audiblox2008. I am cautiously optimistic about improvements I am witnessing in my children. I have read through the program numerous times and watched the DVD several times but I still have a few questions.
1. We are now moving into Level 2 of the Dysgraphia Program. My son is dyslexic and has dysgraphia. My question is, do I alternate between the Lessons printed under each level? i.e. one day Lesson 1, the next day Lesson 2, and the next day back to Lesson 1 until we have completed 12 lessons?
Yes, alternate between the two lesson plans. See first paragraph on page 8.
2. My son has the greatest struggle with the Spelling exercise. I have covered a set a day. However, he is missing on average 1/3 to 1/2 of the words. Which means that there is not enough time to go back and review prior missed words.
If you are doing the Spelling exercise I assume your son's reading is on par. If not, you should be doing the Reading exercise, not the Spelling exercise. Reading problems should be addressed before spelling problems.
> Should I be staying on a set for more than one day?
Several days, if necessary.
> Does he spell the words over and over in one setting until he gets them completely right every time before we move on?
Yes. Learning to spell one word right during a lesson is far better than learning ten halfway. If you take it slow, one step at a time, you'll eventually see a snowball effect, as described in the testimonial at the bottom of Question and Answer: Spelling Problems in Children.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. The other day my son took an entire page of notes as the teacher read about an artist's life. That was amazing! He still had lots of misspelled words, but he actually completed the task neatly and did not have a total emotional meltdown. That is awesome!
After ten days… Fantastic!
